Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire — Tawantinsuyu — the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. At 3,400 meters elevation in the Peruvian Andes, it’s a city where Inca stone walls have survived centuries to become the foundations of Spanish colonial buildings, where Quechua is still spoken in the markets, and where every alley has a story 600 years old.

On this half-day tour, your certified local guide will take you through the most sacred and spectacular sites in and around Cusco: the golden Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), the massive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the carved ritual rock of Qenqo, the military post of Puca Pucara, and the sacred fountain of Tambomachay.

Unlike mass tourism agencies, Wayra Adventures keeps groups small (maximum 12 people) so every traveler gets a personal, authentic experience. Our guides are born and raised in Cusco — certified professionals with a living personal connection to the Inca culture they share with you.

Itinerary

13:00 PM Hotel pickup in Cusco
Meet your guide at your hotel. Private transport to the first stop in the historic center.
13:15 PM Qorikancha — Temple of the Sun
The most sacred building in the entire Inca Empire, once covered entirely in gold panels and home to the most important Inca priests. The Church of Santo Domingo was built directly on its foundations — the contrast between Inca and Spanish colonial architecture is extraordinary. 1-hour guided visit with your certified local guide.
14:30 PM Sacsayhuaman
The most dramatic Inca ruin in Cusco — a massive military fortress and ceremonial center on the hill above the city. Its zigzag walls are made of stones weighing up to 200 tonnes, fitted together without mortar with extraordinary precision. How they were built remains one of archaeology’s great mysteries.
15:30 PM Qenqo
A sacred rock outcrop carved by the Incas into channels, tunnels, altars, and an amphitheater. Likely used for ritual libations and astronomical observations. One of the most atmospheric and least-visited Inca sites near Cusco.
16:00 PM Puca Pucara
A smaller military control post on the road to the Sacred Valley — likely a way-station for Inca armies and caravans. Excellent views of the surrounding valleys.
16:20 PM Tambomachay
The sacred Inca fountain site — water flows through three perfectly carved stone channels that have never stopped flowing in 600 years. Your guide explains its connection to Inca water worship and Pachamama.
17:00 PM Return to Cusco
Private transport back to your hotel or a central point of your choice. Arrive approximately 17:30.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do the City Tour on my first day in Cusco?

It’s actually ideal for your first or second day — it helps you understand the city’s history before heading to other sites. The altitude of 3,400m may cause mild shortness of breath; take it slow and drink plenty of water.

Is there a morning option?

Yes — the standard tour runs at 1:00 PM. A morning option starting at 9:00 AM can be arranged for private groups. Contact us on WhatsApp.

Can I combine the City Tour with other tours?

Yes — the City Tour works perfectly as an introduction the day before the Sacred Valley or Machu Picchu. It also pairs beautifully with the Pago a la Tierra ceremony.

Why does the tour start at Qorikancha?

Qorikancha is located in the historic center of Cusco — it’s the logical first stop before heading up to the archaeological sites on the hills above the city. Starting here also means you visit the most sacred Inca site while you’re freshest.
